Platinum putting Steelpoort on the map
Overview
More than three-quarters of the world's platinum is found in the Bushveld Complex, two symmetrically positioned crescent shaped deposits found in North West Province and Mpumalanga ( Finweek , 11 May 2006).
As a result, the area of Steelpoort has been earmarked for expansion – its untapped, vast supplies of platinum, chrome, and vanadium is located in a mining belt that extends from Lebowa in the north to Aquaries in the southern district (including Lydenburg). Studies recording the amount of platinum and chrome found have indicated the life expectancy of mines in this belt to be between 50 and 150 years.
Due to the industrial explosion, there exists a shortage of housing and infrastructure in Steelpoort, many businessmen and women who work in the area commute from Middelburg – a 390km roundtrip. They would consider it well worth their while to move closer to their work. Bluezone intends to take advantage of this opportunity by rezoning several hectares of land into residential stands in the area and selling it to investors and/or developers.
